Betaxolol is an ophthalmic preparation suggested to relief from the symptoms of ocular hypertension and chronic open angle glaucoma. Betaxolol is a generic compound and is a cardioselective beta- adrenergic antagonist. It deeds by hindering the action of neurotransmitters on beta-receptors that reduces the formation of aqueous humour and therefore reduces the intraocular pressure, that why it is used in the treatment of glaucoma.

Dosage Betaxolol is the ophthalmic preparation that is very effective in lowering the intraocular pressure and for open angle glaucoma. The suggested dose of Betaxolol HCl is one drop in the affected eyes twice a day. Use this eye drop at same time daily. Do not take more than one drop but in case you have taken more than one drop flush the medicine immediately from eyes with the help of the water. If you forget to take your dose of eye drop take it as soon as you recall but don’t take if the time is just near to the next dose and flow your regular schedule.
Side Effects The side effects of the Betaxolol eye drops are swelling of the eyes, itching of the eyes, redness of the eyes, discomfort near the eyes, watery eyes, oozing of the eyelids, mild burning, itching, stinging of the eyes, dryness of the eyes, blurred vision, puffiness of the eyes.
Precaution
  • • If patient is allergic to Betaxolol or other beta-adrenergic drugs do not take the Betaxolol eye drops.
  • • If the patient is having the problem of cardiogenic shock, heart failure, bradycardia, asthma, breathing disorders, do not use Betaxolol eye drops.
  • • If you had gone through any kind of eye surgery do not use this eye drop without prescription.
  • • In case of breast feeding and pregnancy consult your medical advisor before installing eye drops.
  • • Drugs that interacts with the Betaxolol are calcium channel blockers like verapamil, antihypertensive drugs like reserpine, cardiovascular drugs like digoxin, other drugs like Amiodarone, clonidine. These drugs should not be taken along with that of the Betaxolol.
  • • Do not touch the tip of the eye drop as it may cause contamination to the eyes.
  • • Do not use eye drop if you see any kind of particulate material in the solution.
  • • Retain the eye drops out of influence of children.
