Sunitis an oral multi targeted receptor tyrosine kinase (RTK) inhibitor. Sutent is available as Sutent 50 mg in bottles each containing seven tablets. There are lots of side effects reported during the medication of Sunitinib. In such a condition the dose could be managed with adjustment or interruption. As drug monograph a standard dose modification in case of 12.5 mg based on safety, efficacy and tolerability.

Dose level 1-  50 mg for 4 weeks, 2weeks off

Dose level 2-  37.5 mg for 4 weeks , 2weeks off

Dose level 3-  25 mg for 4 weeks , 2 weeks off.

The data available for sunitinib regimen is unknown as it varies from every individual and tumours tend to revive back when the patient is not taking the medication for two weeks period. In case then reduction of dose required is more than 25 mg it is preferable to discontinue sunitinib therapy.

Side Effects

Common side effects seen are low white blood cell count, nausea vomiting, loss of appetite, feeling tired or weak, constipation, high blood pressure and diarrhea. Less common effect seen are joint pain, back pain, abdominal pain, cough, dizziness, fever, headache and trouble sleeping. Rare side effects include heart attacks, liver failure and kidney failure.
