Melacare is a brand of topical cream where three medications are combined together which include hydroquinone, Tretinoin and Mometasone. Melacare is used to treat acne, pimples and fairness.   Hydroquinone is a bleaching agent needed to reduce the dark patches of skin. Tretinoin is another active ingredient which lessens the emergence of pimples. 


Melacare is indicated for hyperpigmentation, acne, scars and melasma and age spots.

Details

Melacare is used all over the world for hyperpigmentation and scars.  Melacare cream could be also used for treatment of acne, itching and inflammation. Mometasone furoate is a glucocorticoid steroid used topically to reduce inflammation of skin. The mechanism of action of involves hindering the enzyme tyrosinase which decreases melanin formation. Melacare is also toxic to melanocytes which are melanin producing cells and are responsible for skin colour .Melacare kills them by acting as inhibitor of DNA and RNA.

Dosage

Melacare dosage varies for individuals as per doctor’s prescription. The dose will vary as per the medical history of the individual. The dosage needs to be confirmed by the physician in case the individual is getting pregnant or she is doing breast feeding. The dosage also needs to be confirmed if there is allergies to medication, foods or other substance.

How to apply or Use

  • When applied for the first time a small amount of cream should be applied to unbroken patch of the skin. The individual should wait for 24 hours and check whether there is any report of itching, blistering, redness or irritation. In case of any prior condition contact your doctor.
  • Wash the affected area and let it dry. The cream should be applied and rubbed so that it gets evenly distributed. Wash your hands immediately after using Melacare cream.
  • After applying the cream the skin should be prevented from direct exposure to the sun.

Missed Dose

If the patient has missed the regular dose he should apply it as soon as he remembers. If it’s time for the next dose then leave the missed dose and continue with the usual dosage.

Overdosage

As Melacare is a topical cream there is no overdosage possibility.. Melacare has no life threatening conditions  reported.

Side Effects

There are many side effects seen when Melacare is used which includes irritation of skin, thinning of skin, itching of skin and increased burning of skin. Due to decrease in the melanin concentration skin becomes sensitive to sun damage when Melacare is applied. Ageing is also a side effect observed due to Melacare and finally affects the skin elasticity.

Contraindication

  •  Melacare is contraindicated in case there is hypersensitivity shown towards Hydroquinone, Tretinoin and Mometasone.
  • Melacare application during pregnancy and children below 12 years of age should be totally avoided.

Drug Interaction

  • Glimepiride, Fortamet, Exubera and Fortamet
  • Minerals, Vitamins, alcohol and benzoic acid also interact with Melacare cream
Precaution
  • Melacare should not be applied to the open wound.
  • While moving out in sun after applying Melacare use sunblock.
  • A small patch test should be done before continuing with the regular therapy for the first time.
  • Avoid applying near the eyes or mouth.
  • The physician should be consulted in case of liver or kidney problem.
  • In case of medicine containing phenol or salicylic acid Melacare should be avoided.
  • Precaution should be taken in case of nursing woman.
