Optivar is a sterile preparation for ocular use containing Azelastine hydrochloride. It’s a topical antihistamine and used to manage seasonal allergic conjunctivitis. It’s a mast cell stabilizer and helps to ease with the sign of itching, inflammation, runny eyes, and grittiness. Azelastine is an effective antihistamine and has a rapid onset of action and help to get rid of the signs of allergic conjunctivitis for about next 12 hours.

Optivar is fast acting ocular drug that is indicated for the treatment of eye itching due to allergic conjunctivitis that starts its effect in just 3 days. Its main ingredient Azelastine hydrochloride is an antihistamine that acts by blocking H1 receptor. It constrains the release of allergic response histamine mediator.

Strength Optivar Eye Drops - 5 ml (0.05%)
Dosage • Wash-down your hands properly before installing the eye drops. • Don’t touch the tip of the dropper and prevents its touch with the eyes for the sake of contamination. • Take away your contact lenses before installing the eye drops as it contains some preservatives that can spoil your lenses and put them back at least after 10-15 minutes. • If you feel redness in eye after installing your eye drop don’t wear contact lenses. • Install the eye drops twice a day. • Incline your head back, look upward and pull your lower eyelid to make a pouch. • Hold the dropper over your eyes and install single drop. • Gently close the eyes for about 2 minutes and let the drug gets absorb. Don’t rub or blink your eyes. • Don’t wash the dropper. Close the lid immediately after the use. What to do if dose is missed? In case of missed dose install it as soon as you remember but if the time is just near to your nest dose than skep and follow your regular schedule. What to do in case of overdosing? Don’t install more than one dose. In case of excess dose wash your eyes with runny water immediately and if still you feel uncomfortable seek medical help.
Side Effects The few side effects of Optivar are discomfort in the eyes, burning in the eyes, stinging sensation, itching in eyes, feeling like something has entered in the eyes, conjunctivitis, influenza, rhinitis, eye inflammation, rashes, swelling. If these symptoms persists for longer duration seek medical help.
Precaution • Don’t install in those patents having a known history of allergy towards Azelastine Hydrochloride. • Patient having eye infection problem should not use Optivar eye drops. • Patients with a past medical history of herpes viral eye infection should not use this eye drop. • Don’t install in case of pregnant women and breast feeding mothers.
